Before climbing the Snowy Range Mountains, Route 130 (also known as the Snowy Range Road) passes through Laramie, Wyoming. Here we see The Boardwalk, a local flea market and leatherworker.

This tree stands between Old Route 66 (left), one of the most famous highways in the United States, and its predecessor, Interstate 40. Route 66 was fabled for its use during the 1930s for those escaping the Dust Bowl, and the famous roadside attractions such as diners, gas stations, and motels.

Leaning Rock, Rockbridge, Ohio

Rural northeastern scenes such as this have been a common subject for artists since the 1800s. Charles Burchfield's paintings informed much of the subject matter I became interested in. This scene is almost completely monochrome aside from the bright red barn and blue sky against white clouds. The leaning powerline cables on the left break up the salubriousness of the scene.

Like many projects, I resisted photographing these trees early on. I thought the simplicity of a tree sitting near the road to be unworthy of a photograph. At a certain point I could no longer resist the urge to take a picture of them, and now they form a large part of what I am searching for.
